Different
schools follow different boards and accordingly teach different syllabus to
students. Most of the schools are guided either by CBSE or ICSE board of
education. This raises a tricky situation for parents. More often than not they
are unable to understand which curriculum is better for their kids and which
school should they eventually enroll their child in. Let us try to see the
major differences between the two biggest education boards in India.
The
medium of Instruction
ICSE
does not recommend Hindi. On the other hand, both English and Hindi language is
approved by CBSE as the medium of instructions. Most of the top schools in India follow the ICSE
pattern.
Regular
and Private Candidates
Any
candidate who has not been studying in an ICSEboard school in Delhi is forbidden from appearing in the exams. On the
contrary, CBSE is affiliated with a large number of schools all over India. The
Regular candidates studying at CBSE schools as well as private candidates from
non-affiliated schools are allowed to appear in the exams.
Board
Recognition
The
Indian government recognises CBSE, not ICSE. Although the global validity of
the certificates provided by CBSE and ICSE are the same, yet CBSE has a better
footing than ICSE in the country. Many foreign education systems recognise ICSE
as equivalent to senior examination.
Curriculum/Course
Content
ICSE
syllabus is full of details and requires the student to learn and be able to
recall a lot. The syllabus of CBSE is designed in such a way that it gives the
candidates an upper hand in qualifying in various entrance examinations,
including the medical and engineering professional exams. CBSE is relatively
easier. CBSE and ICSE have a slightly different approach as far as the focus on
subjects is concerned. Subjects such as Science and Maths are given a great
deal of attention in CBSE. This is because application of knowledge is the main
focus. CISCE (ICSE) on the other hand is more balanced with an equal focus on
language, arts, and science.
These
were the various differences between ICSE and CBSE. Choose wisely!
